Preparing to Graduate

All students are required to submit a final plan of study in order to graduate. As an individualized major, the procedure and deadline for filing is slightly different from that of students with a traditional major.

Whereas many traditional majors file their plans of study directly with the Registrar, individualized majors must file their final plan of study, signed by their primary advisor, with the IMJR Program Director. This must be done by the end of the second week of the semester in which you expect to graduate. The IMJR Program Office will then file a final plan of study on your behalf with the Registrar by the end of the fourth week of the semester in which you expect to graduate.

Please note: If you plan to finish your degree in August, you must file your final plan of study in the spring semester.

Instructions for Students Planning to Graduate in December 2008

If you plan to graduate in December 2008, you must add the following to your "to do" list during the first three weeks of the semester:

1. Diploma Application

If you have not done so already, you need to apply online for a diploma application. You can do this on StudentAdmin; see http://www.registrar.uconn.edu/graduati.html

2. Submit to the IMJR Office no later than Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008:

  • Individualized major graduation checklist,
  • Final plan of study, signed by your primary advisor,
  • Change in plan of study form (if applicable), signed by your primary advisor
  • For Double Majors: updated double major worksheet and copy of final plan of study of your other major

Please see further details on these forms below. The forms can be picked up in the IMJR Office or downloaded from the "Forms" page. PLEASE READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!

* Individualized major graduation checklist: All IMJR students - CLAS, CANR - must complete the IMJR graduation checklist, which includes a General Education Requirements checklist. Please be sure to use the appropriate checklist (CLAS old gen. eds; CLAS new gen eds; CANR old gen eds; CANR new gen eds). You may find it helpful to consult your "degree progress report" from PeopleSoft as you fill out this form.

* Final plan of study: All IMJR students - CLAS, CANR - must complete the IMJR final plan of study. This will supersede the proposed plan of study approved on your admission to the major. Your primary advisor must sign this form before you submit it to the IMJR Director. Once the IMJR Director has reviewed and authorized it, she will file it with the Degree Auditor in the Office of the Registrar. (IMJR students admitted to the SAH or SFS before the July 1st, 2006 reorganization of the schools, must come to the IISP office to obtain an appropriate Final Plan of Study form.)

As you fill out your final plan of study, you will find it helpful to refer to your approved proposed plan of study. This will permit you to see clearly any changes you may have made to your plan of study after you were accepted to the program and allow you to determine whether you need to file a "change in plan of study " form.

* Change in plan of study: If you have made changes to your proposed plan, you will also need to submit a change in plan of study form. This form is required only if you have taken courses that you wish to include in your major that were NOT on the A or B list of your approved proposed plan of study. This form must be signed by your primary advisor. You may also need the signature of your second and/or third advisors if the changes are in their area of expertise.

* Updated double major worksheet ANDcopy of final plan of study of your other major: If you are earning a double major, you must also submit an up-to-date double major worksheet and a copy of the final plan of study of your other major. We need this in order to verify that any overlap between the two majors is acceptable. ( Please note: The IMJR office will not submit the final plan of study for your other major to the Registrar. To file the final plan of study for your other major, please follow the procedures of the relevant department.)

Honors Students, please note:
Honors IMJR students should ensure that they have followed the deadlines set by the Honors Program for filing the Honors Scholar Final Plan of Study and Honors Scholar Thesis Plan. See the Honors Program website: http://www.honors.uconn.edu/academics/graduation/checklist.php

Honors theses must be submitted by December xx, 2008 in hard copy to both the Honors Program and the IMJR Program.

Dr. Lamb and Dr. van Beusekom will schedule walk-in advising to deal with the questions of graduating seniors in the first two weeks of the semester.
